Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive cognitive decline, neuronal loss, and the accumulation of amyloid plaques in the brain. Sleep disorders are frequently observed in individuals with AD and have been implicated as important contributors to disease development and progression. This review provides an overview of current research advancements in understanding the comorbid mechanisms linking AD and sleep disorders. It explores the bidirectional relationship between sleep disturbances and AD pathology, as well as the potential underlying mechanisms, including disruptions in circadian rhythms, alterations in neurotransmitter systems, and neuroinflammatory processes. The review also discusses the impact of sleep disorders on cognitive function in individuals with AD and highlights the potential therapeutic implications.
