ABSTRACT

Obesity is a major risk factor for chronic diseases, and the integration of sports and medicine is an effective pathway to curb obesity. Employing grounded theory and drawing on literature and interviews, this study finds that differences between sports and medicine at the macro-level of historical humanistic development and the meso-level of organizational and disciplinary structures have led to integration barriers in hardware resources (e.g., personnel and venues) and software resources (e.g., technology market and compliance). Accordingly, a strategy model for obesity governance through sports-medicine integration under the New Development Concept is constructed: innovation-driven development to establish a new disciplinary theoretical system; coordination-driven development to open up mutual recognition channels for talent; green development to foster a healthy body-weight perspective; openness-driven development to improve safeguard measures; and sharing-driven development to achieve full coverage of service networks. The model aims to provide theoretical and practical guidance for obesity governance and serve as a reference for maintaining health through sports-medicine integration.
