ABSTRACT

Dance performance art primarily utilizes human movements to shape and present character portrayals. In live stage performances, makeup design and choreographic vocabulary can be employed to showcase both the inner and outer aspects of characters, thereby enhancing dancers' comprehensive skills. This paper elaborates on key factors influencing the effectiveness of character portrayal in dance performances. Through professional research and analysis, it systematically explores various techniques for creating compelling character images. These techniques include crafting unique dance scenarios that capture the essence of the narrative, scientifically utilizing props and costumes to enhance visual storytelling, strengthening personality development through nuanced movement patterns, refining makeup designs to reflect character traits, and exploring stage background elements to set the mood and context. By integrating these approaches, dancers can significantly improve their ability to create authentic character portrayals. Ultimately, this leads to more refined and impactful performances that deeply engage audiences and convey powerful emotional and narrative content.
