ABSTRACT

The Yi people are an ancient ethnic group primarily distributed in the southwestern Chinese provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan. As a typical mountain-dwelling people, fire plays a vital role in their production and daily life due to the unique geographical characteristics of the southwest. Over a long period, this has led to the formation of a systematic and rich fire culture, encompassing fire myths, fire pit culture, fire worship and taboos, and the Torch Festival culture.
