In 2001, Michael Dudok de Wit's animated short film Father and Daughter won the 73rd Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, telling the story of a daughter who spends her life waiting for her father to return. Although this short film adopts a minimalist style, it has triggered people's thinking about love and life. This paper probed into the emotional expression of Father and Daughter from the perspective of the shot, narrative strategy, connotation symbolism as well as the use of light and shadow.
