ABSTRACT

This paper aims to assess the language competence of Chinese college English teachers of three hundred and twenty three (323) Chinese college English teachers that are employed at 2 different types of University in the Anhui Province of China, including comprehensive and application-oriented universities. More specifically, the paper seeks to assess the level of the respondent's language competence from four aspects: linguistic competence, intercultural competence, sociolinguistic competence and pragmatic competence based on the results of the study.
