ABSTRACT
Beloved, a representative work of Toni Morrison, the only African-American female writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, tells the story of black people’s miserable lives after the abolition of slavery. Based on the theoretical framework of post-colonialism, this paper will analyze nightmares of African Americans as the other, that are, loss of individual subjectivity, loss of family identity and loss of national culture. The wounds of the past are unforgettable, and the only way for black people to achieve true spiritual freedom is to come to terms with ethnic history and work together.
