ABSTRACT

Nowadays, culture is seen as one of the central concerns for language teaching. Intercultural language teaching focusing on intercultural competence instead of communicative competence makes the language classroom multicultural. For language teachers, integrating culture and language in language learning classroom seems more and more essential, especially for the context of English as foreign language (EFL) classroom. Learners should be encouraged as much as possible to acknowledge foreign cultures through participation and interaction. As a language teacher, in order to be an intercultural speaker, it is very important for me to understand what intercultural language teaching is and how it would be applied in classrooms, especially in an EFL classroom in China. Detailed teaching design and teaching process are elaborated in detail steps are presented in this paper.
